NOVA SCOTIA’S PROVINCIAL YOUTH CHOIR PERFORMS TWO WORLD PREMIERS IN CONCERTS DEDICATED TO LOVE

The 2011 Nova Scotia Youth Choir, will present concerts under the direction of guest conductor Michael Zaugg on Saturday October 1st at 7:30 p.m. at Zion United Church, Liverpool and on Sunday October 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at Église St. Bernard, St. Bernard.  They will be joined by resident conductors Chris Bowman, Heather Fraser and accompanists Hannah Parks and Lynn Erskine.

The Nova Scotia Youth Choir is one of only 3 provincial ensembles of its kind in Canada. It is an auditioned group of the province’s most talented singers aged 16 – 25 from communities across Nova Scotia. 

2011 guest conductor, Michael Zaugg, has worked with some of the finest choirs in the world and will bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for the choral art form to these talented young singers and to the audience. The program, themed around “love”, includes the Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, contemporary Scandinavian works, as well as jazz standards and folk songs. The choir will also be performing two world premieres of new works by Canadian composers Stephen Hatfield (BC) and Michal Novotny (Montreal).

Tickets for the Liverpool concert, October 1st are $15 and $5 for students, to be purchased on the door, or at MacPherson’s.   

The St. Bernard concert on October 2nd is being sponsored by the “Musique Saint Bernard” Concert Series. Tickets are $15 (regular), and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door or through season subscription. Details at www.musiquesaintbernard.ca
